Na adolescência, costumava participar de rodas de músicos na Praça Tiradentes. Aos 17 anos, seguiu para Marília (SP) como violonista de um conjunto do qual participava o compositor Henricão. No início da década de 1940, tocou em parques de diversão em Campinas (SP) e em Niterói (RJ).
Em 1945 venceu um concurso de violonista na Rádio Transmissora (hoje Globo). Fez apresentações como violonista em Minas Gerais e Rio de Janeiro.
Voltou para a Rádio Transmissora, apresentando-se durante três anos no programa Trem da Alegria, no Teatro João Caetano, junto com Lamartine Babo, Iara Sales e Héber de Boscoli.
No final da década de 1940 organizou o Bola Sete e seu Conjunto e para cantar, convidou Dolores Durán, que era crooner da boate Beguin. Atuaram nas boates Drink e Vogue. Em 1949, lançou na gravadora Star seu primeiro disco, interpretando ao violão o bolero "Meu sonho", e o choro "Carminho no choro", ambos de sua autoria. Em 1952, gravou com violão elétrico os choros "Sem compromisso" e "Tô" de sinuca", ambos de sua autoria.
Em 1953, gravou com violão elétrico o choro "Meditando", de Garoto e o "Baião da Bahia", de sua autoria. Em 1954, formou uma orquestra para atuar no Baile dos Artistas no Hotel Glória. Com este grupo excursionou pela Argentina, Uruguai e Espanha. Em 1955, fez shows em Lima no Peru e em Santiago do Chile. No mesmo ano, gravou com seu conjunto na Continental o choro "Hora staccato", de Dinicu e Heifetz, e o baião "Czardas", de Monti. No ano seguinte, gravou ao violão o fox-trot "Accarezzame", de Pino Calvi e Nisa e o baião "Scapriccitiello", de F. Albano e Pacífico Vento.
Em 1957, gravou com seu conjunto as músicas "Bacará", de sua autoria, e "Aquarela do Brasil", de Ary Barroso. No ano seguinte, gravou o samba rock "Mister Jimmy", e o mambo "Mambeando", de sua autoria. Em 1959, mudou-se para os E.U.A, onde atuou por três anos nos hotéis da cadeia Sheraton, com shows quase diários. No mesmo ano lançou o LP "Bola Sete... É a bola da vez" pela EMI/Music interpretando "Vai que é bom", e "Batucando mesmo", de sua autoria, "Cadê a Jane", de Erasmo Silva e Wilson Batista, "Minha saudade", de João Donato e João Gilberto, e "Eu preciso de você", de Aloísio de Oliveira e Tom Jobim.
Em 1960, gravou o samba "Batucando mesmo", e o rock "Ma griffe", ambos de sua autoria. Por essa mesma época, foram lançados dois LPs seus: "Bola Sete", pela Sinter, com "Um a zero", de Pixinguinha e Benedito Lacerda e "Império do samba", de Zé da Zilda e Zilda do Zé, entre outras, e "Bola Sete e quatro trombones", pela Odeon, destacando-se "Mambeando", de sua autoria, e "The Man I Love", de Ira Gershwin e George Gershwin, entre outras.
Em 1962, participou do Festival de Monterey, na Califórnia, E.U.A., como integrante do conjunto de Dizzie Gillespie. Como integrante desse conjunto, gravou um disco nos Estados Unidos. Também no mesmo ano, foi lançado no Brasil o LP "O extraordinário Bola Sete", pela Odeon, destacando-se as músicas "Menino desce daí", de Paulinho Nogueira, e "Fico triste sem twist", de sua autoria, entre outras. Em novembro do mesmo ano, apresentou-se em New York, E.U.A., no Festival da Bossa Nova, do Carnegie Hall, ao lado da cantora Carmen Costa, festival que lançou o novo ritmo brasileiro nos EUA, apresentando-se ainda no Village Gate e no Village Vanguard. Também em 1962, organizou seu próprio trio, com Tião Neto (baixo) e Chico Batera (percussão). Lançou, ainda no mesmo ano, pelo selo Fantasy dos Estados Unidos o LP "Bola Sete Bossa nova", interpretando "manhã de carnaval", de Antônio Maria e Luiz Bonfá, além de outras composições suas como "Sem você", e "Cingadinho".
Em 1964, lançou dois LPs pelo selo norte americano Fantasy: "Tour de force", com destaque para a música título, de Dizzy Gillespie e "Mambeando", de sua autoria e, "From all sides - Vince Guaraldi and Bola Sete". No ano seguinte, lançou mais dois LPs pelo selo Fantasy: "The solo guitar of Bola Sete", com destaque para "Flamenco fantasy", de sua autoria e "Brzilliance", de Laurindo de Almeida e, "The incomparable Bola Sete", com destaque para "Lamento negro" e "Be-bossa", de sua autoria, e "Valsa de uma cidade", de Ismael Netto e Antônio Maria. Em 1966, voltou a gravar com Vince Guaraldi, lançando o LP "Live at el Matador - Vince Guraldi e Bola Sete", com "Favela", de Tom Jobim e Vinicius de Moraes, e "Black Orpheus suíte", de Tom Jobim e Luiz Bonfá. No mesmo ano, gravou o LP "Autentico! - Bola Sete and the New brazilian trio", com destaque para "Brejeiro", de Ernesto Nazareth, "Quindim de Iaiá", de Ary Barroso e "Pau de arara", de Luiz Gonzaga e Guio de Morais. Em 1967, lançou pelo selo Verve o LP "Bola Sete at the Monterrey Jazz Festival" no qual interpretou um medley com "Manhã de carnaval", de Luiz Bonfá e Antônio Maria, "A felicidade", de Tom Jobim e Vinicius de Moraes, e "Samba de Orfeu", de Luiz Bonfá e Antônio Maria.
Em 1969, ao lado de Airto Moreira, Eumir Deodato e Milton Nascimento participou do Festival de Música Brasileira e Americana, no México. Em 1971 gravou o LP Workin' on a Groovy Thing, na Paramount/RGE, com destaque para a música "With a Little Help from my Friends", de John Lennon e Paul McCartney.
Ao todo gravou cerca de dez LPs nos E.U.A., entre os quais, um com Vince Guaraldi, além de Ocean I, Ocean II e Jungle Suite. Atuou no regional de Claudionor Cruz. Considerado ao lado de Luís Bonfa, Laurindo de Almeida e Garoto, como um dos "mais talentosos e modernos violonistas brasileiros dos anos cinqüenta", segundo os historiadores Jairo Severiano e Zuza Homem de Mello.

As a teenager, I used to attend wheels musicians in Tiradentes Square. At 17, he went to Marilia (SP) as a guitarist of a group which participated in the Henricão composer. In the early 1940s, played in amusement parks in Campinas (SP) and Niterói (RJ).
In 1945 won a guitarist contest on Radio Transmitter (now Globo). He performed as a guitarist in Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.
He returned to Radio Transmitter, performing for three years in the Joy Train program at the Teatro João Caetano, along with Lamartine Babo, Iara Sales and Heber of Boscoli.
In the late 1940s organized the Bola Sete and his set and sing, invited Dolores Durán, who was the crooner Beguin nightclub. Acted in Drink and Vogue nightclubs. In 1949, he launched his first album in Star label, playing the guitar Bolero "My dream," and crying "Carminho into tears", both of his own. In 1959, he moved to the US, where he worked for three years in the Sheraton chain of hotels, with almost daily shows. In the same year he released the album "Bola Sete ... Also in the same year, was released in Brazil the LP "The extraordinary Bola Sete", the Odeon, especially the songs "Boy down there," Paulinho Nogueira, and "I am sad without twist" of his own, among other . In November of the same year, he performed in New York, USA, in the Festival of Bossa Nova, Carnegie Hall, next to the singer Carmen Costa, festival launched the new Brazilian rhythm in the US, appearing even at the Village Gate and at the Village Vanguard. Also in 1962, he organized his own trio, with Tiao Neto (bass) and Chico Batera (percussion). In 1967, released by Verve label LP "Bola Sete at the Monterrey Jazz Festival" in which he played a medley with "Carnival Morning" by Luiz Bonfa and Antonio Maria, "Happiness" by Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, and "Samba de Orpheus" by Luiz Bonfa and Antonio Maria.
In 1969, along with Airto Moreira, Eumir Deodato and Milton Nascimento participated in the Brazilian and American Music Festival in Mexico. In 1971 the LP Workin 'on a Groovy Thing, the Paramount / GER, especially the song "With a Little Help from my Friends" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
