A composição fez sucesso.

This is the album "Controversy", recorded with the songs of the historical fight of Noel Rosa and Wilson Batista, which resulted in some famous songs from the classical repertoire of Brazilian samba.

Below the text Luiz Américo Lisboa Junior on this wonderful work!

Disagreements between popular music composers always occurred, resulting in major contributions to our greatest art. The first occurred between Sinhô and Pixinguinha group, from 1918 onwards. It should, however, point out that such disagreements restricted only to the musical field, does not affect the friendly relations among artists. This was the case, for example, Noel Rosa and Wilson Batista, who staged the greatest musical duel of Brazilian popular music. Noel Rosa, which needs no further presentation, was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1910 and died on May 4, 1937 with only 27 years incomplete. Wilson Batista was the city of Campos, State of Rio de Janeiro, born on July 3, 1913. He began his artistic life very soon come to become one of our most respected composers, signing works like "Mason Valdemar," "I hit the thousand "," Emilia "and many others. He died on July 7, 1968, exactly 36 years.

The musical contest between these two great artists began in 1933 when Sílvio Caldas recorded a samba entitled scarf around the neck of Wilson Batista, who was the apology of roguery. The composition was successful. Only those who did not like was Noel Rosa, because he thought she was a very strong defense of vagrancy and then decided to compose another samba that refuted Wilson Batista urging people to work and leave the trickery. Then came "loose Boy" recorded by Aracy de Almeida.

Clearly, Wilson Batista did not like the Noel response, and then decided to compose "Mocinho Village" in making a hard criticism of the Vila Isabel neighborhood, birthplace of Noel Rosa. This song, however, did not have much repercussion and controversy seemed over, it was not the success of the samba "Spell of the Vila", Noel Rosa and Vadico, engraved by John Petra de Barros, whose letter was a real defense and apology to the neighborhood Vila Isabel.

This time was Wilson Batista who replied, because, because of the success achieved by "Spell of the Vila", composed a samba entitled "Bullshit," belied Noel and released to radio Luiz Barbosa, Mario Moraes and Leo Vilar, however, not written to disk. Thinking he had not felt the claim of Wilson Batista, Noel Rosa in an elegant attitude decided to do another song honoring other neighborhoods and defending Vila Isabel, then springing the famous samba "Hunch unfortunate", also recorded by Aracy de Almeida.

Faced with such a response, Wilson Batista lost his temper and then made a samba called "Frankenstein Village" in which he spoke of the physical defect of Noel Rosa, who had atrophied lower jaw. This samba was not recorded at the time, seen to be too offensive. However, it was released on the radio by the group The Four Devils. Not satisfied Wilson Batista also made another samba entitled "blind Earth," also not recorded.

To end the controversy that had lasted three years, Noel Rosa wrote a letter on the melody of "blind Earth" Wilson Batista, giving him the title of "Stop being convinced," making "peace" and closing with a flourish this great musical controversy is one of the most beautiful chapters of our popular music.

In 1956 Odeon pays homage to two great composers and invites two interpreters who were very successful at the time, Francisco Egydio and Roberto Paiva, to together to record all the songs of the famous controversy over the samba song of Noel Rosa "John nobody" - erroneously assigned to a reference Wilson Batista. Everything was assembled in a relay scheme, as if one had actually responding to the other and obeying the chronology of the songs. The album was a huge success and rescued for the general public the songs that were not recorded at the time and which were unknown to the vast majority of people. Arrangements faithfully obey the standards of the time of the making of the songs, and the album also features on the cover a beautiful work of Antonio Nássara, one of the greatest Brazilian cartoonists, who also worked as a composer and still sign the text on the back cover.

It is therefore a historical and vital drive to know and admire the talent of these composers and performers, representatives of the golden age of our popular song.
