The trio appeared in 1952, in the program "Music in Surdina", presented by Paulo Tapajós, counting on Fafá Lemos on the violin, Garoto on the guitar and Chiquinho on the accordion. In 1953, he recorded the records "Trio Surdina plays Ary Barroso" and "Trio Surdina".
In 1955, he released on Musidisc six albums at 78 rpm including the songs "Nem eu"; "What does Bahia have" and "O Mar", by Dorival Caymmi; "Yellow tape"; "Three whistles" and "Com que roupa", by Noel Rosa and "Rio de Janeiro", "Restlessness" and "No tray de baiana" by Ary Barroso. The songs of Noel Rosa, Ary Barroso and Dorival Caymmi recorded at 78 rpm were collected on LP "Trio Surdina interprets Dorival Caymmi, Ary Barroso and Noel Rosa". In 1956, the Trio recorded "My Lemon My Lemon Tree", of popular motif; "Favela", by Hekel Tavares and Joraci Camargo; "Dry Land" by Ary Barroso and "Babalu" by Lecuona. Also in the same year was released the LP "Listening trio Surdina voluma 3", which brought some songs previously recorded and others recorded for the LP as "Why shine your eyes", by Fernando César.
The Trio had a short career but of great productivity and was considered as precursor of the sambalanço and bossa nova. The end of the trio was precipitated by the premature death of the guitarist Garoto, although many recordings were only released after his death, further evidence of the trio's vitality and hard work. In 2003, he was honored with a re-creation of the trio that featured Henrique Cazes on guitar, Marcos Nimrichter on the accordion and Nicolas Krassic on violin, who performed with singer Claudette Soares on a show at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center in Rio de Janeiro.
